pick your words

Is what you’re saying really worth saying? Or are you just talking to fill empty air?

Could you make the same point but in fewer words?

How about saying nothing at all?

Sometimes we talk just for the sake of talking. We’re worried what people might think if we don’t have anything to say in response. We feel like by continuing to expand and explain a concept in numerous different ways we’re making it easier to understand.

Maybe sometimes we are.

But sometimes it’s completely unnecessary. We could convey the same idea in far less time. We could definitely convey it far more accurately if we stopped to think about what we meant.

Pick your words before opening your mouth.
