We like to think we’re completely independant. That each one of our perspectives and impressions is unique.
But the culture we are immersed in affects this to a far greater extent than we’re aware of. It changes the way we behave and it changes the way we think.
We can’t afford to have to make a new decision every time we encounter a certain scenario. So instead we rely on previous responses that have become part of our unconscious thought process.
These automatic responses are the result of our environment, our upbringing and our experiences.
If you want to truly understand and be understood, make sure you’re not jumping to the wrong conclusions. Make sure you’re not making assumptions about what things really mean.
