an objective view

Sometimes you act for the wrong reasons.

You’re not being true to yourself. You’re not being completely open and honest.

Sometimes you catch yourself before it goes too far.

It pays to take a step back and try to judge things objectively. This isn’t always possible, but we can try.

What are the potential benefits? Are those potential benefits really what you want? Or do they just seem that way? What are the potential costs? Is it really worth it?

Sometimes it takes somebody else to counter our excessive optimism, to counter our inherent bias, to make you question yourself.

That viewpoint is so valuable.
