What role does food play in your life?
Is it an indulgence? Do you see it as a way of treating yourself? Or is it purely functional? A means to an end?
Do you eat when you’re hungry, enough to fill you up? Or is it just as much as you’d like?
Food serves a purpose for me. It’s fuel. I can adjust based on how I feel and any changes are then evaluated against performance.
What about where it comes from?
For fruit and vegetables, I try to follow the seasonality of UK produce. This isn’t absolute - there’s some things which are imported but I keep these to a minimum.
I can trace the sourcing for all the meat and fish I eat. Whether it’s a local farm for beef, chicken (and eggs) or game from family and friends, not only do I keep the amount to a minimum, but I can point to where it comes from.
This is a rough outline of my diet, a small peek into a topic that fascinates me. It’s something that I’m always learning about, always refining and always conscious of.
I’ve gone through a number of different iterations when it comes to the food that I eat. What I started with, when I first began experimenting, looked considerably different to now. And whilst this is my current recipe, it almost certainly won’t be the last.
