The person we are changes over time.
Our interests change. Our preferences change. Our focus changes.
Things that were previously important become less so. Things that we used to just accept now become central in determining what we choose to do with our time.
What defines us today almost certainly won’t define us in the future. It is a constantly evolving concept.
Sometimes it’s a big change. Sometimes it’s just a little change.
Just because we’re now a different version of ourselves doesn’t mean that we were being disingenuous before. It doesn’t mean the we were not being honest about what we wanted.
What we want isn’t fixed. We get to choose our focus.
