Inspired by T.K. Coleman, putting into words something I’ve been thinking about a lot recently.
We all have expectations.
Expectations about what should happen, about how things will turn out, about what we want from other people. Even if they’re only very small, the expectations are still there.
With these expectations come assumptions.
The trouble is that everyone’s expectations are different. Sometimes only subtly different. Sometimes drastically different. But they will always be different.
So what can we do about this?
We have to take control. We have to take responsibility for creating the results we want.
We can’t leave it down to other people. We can’t rely on them to act exactly as we expect. Instead, we have to take ownership. We have to provide the information. We have to ask the questions.
Nobody else is going to do it for you.
